Up and Down in the Alps
An interesting aspect of traveling in the Alps is taking the “ups and downs” for granted. That is, even though one is aware that the trail or highway on which you are traveling is a considerable distance above sea level it is easy to shift that awareness to the back of your mind, so to speak. Then as you round a bend reality reappears with a jolt and you are rudely reminded that you are actually high in the sky. At least that is the experience as I perceived it.

There are many small villages which sustain families, but lack basic resources such as a school. We assumed (imagined) there was a bus or even train connection to the nearest school.

Hiking is a way of life in the Alps. The weather was consistently good, and so each day included a couple of 2 to 4 mile walks. Here are some of our favorite views while on foot.
